The Cultural Capital of Southwest Florida
Sarasota has it all: culture, climate and class, in addition to some of the finest beaches in the world. With two symphonies, an opera house, a ballet company, more than half a dozen theaters and numerous art galleries, Sarasota County’s cultural offerings rival those of larger cities.
Instrumental to Sarasota’s heritage as a haven for artists, musicians, writers and art patrons was John and Mable Ringling's love of the region. The Ringlings established a cultural foundation that influences the community to this day. Among the many gifts they bequeathed the people of Sarasota is one of the most beautiful museums in the United States. The Ringling Museum’s collection is internationally recognized for its Baroque paintings with many oils by John Paul Rubens, including his Triumph of the Eucharist series. Also included are more than 600-plus mostly-European masterpieces by such artists as Velaquez, Hals and Poussin.
